The Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON), in conjunction with the MTN Foundation (MTNF), has announced the entrance examinations for the 16th MTNF MUSON-MTNF Diploma programme in music for the 2023-24 academic year.

The MUSON School of Music was established in 1989 to offer training to individuals interested in learning to sing or play a musical instrument. In 2002, the school received accreditation to award diplomas, leading to the setting up of the two-year MUSON Diploma School in 2006.

The diploma course is a full-time, two-year course offering advanced training in music with the following majors: piano, organ, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, classical guitar and voice.

The deadline for online applications is 18 August, and interested persons may apply here(link is external).

The entrance examinations will take place from 5 to 8 September and will take the form of:

• A written examination in music theory at appropriate Grade 5 standard and general music knowledge.


• An audition on a major instrument or voice of at least Grade 5 standard before a faculty or jury.

Admission requirements

Applicants for the MTNF/MUSON Diploma course in music are expected to possess the following minimum academic requirements:

• General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level with credits in at least five subjects including English language.


• Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) with credits in at least five subjects including English language.

Other requirements 

• Practical: Grade 5 or higher pass certificate of the MUSON School of Music or any other recognised music examining body by the MUSON School such as ABRSM or Trinity.


• Theory: Grade 5 or higher pass certificate of the MUSON School of Music or any other recognised music examining body by the MUSON School.

Note: Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. Only short-listed applicants will be notified by 25 August and given an examination number that permits them to take part in examinations, auditions and interviews.
