On April 14th 2007 at Red Court hotel in Nairobi, 12 young men driven and filled by the passion to come to aid of fellow Kenyans at the height of post poll chaos started what would be known as Red Acapella. Armed with angelic vocals and singing only accapella they immediately began capturing hearts and minds with amazing music. Only singing in accapella and being volunteers with the Kenya Red Cross, the name Red Acapella was coined. The journey began slowly but surely as it was during this time that the basics for their future sound were being laid.

After a series of performances they hit the studio, as they had no recorded song. It wasn’t easy because of mostly finance and having little knowledge about the music industry didn’t help either. Hoping from one studio to the next in search of the right recipe for their music landed them at the doors of Super Mazembe maestro Kasongo wa Kanema (R.I.P) who would produce their first album ‘Hatua’. They had a short stint before members started falling off the wagon. This had an impact on their music and something needed to be done urgently hence the introduction of live instrumentation into their music as well as performance. By now they were only three members left and the first song to come out was “Dereva” followed by “Ka Gava” which enjoyed much success. The group wasn’t able to glue together due to numerous challenges and pretty soon three became two mainly (Magaa and Yaba).

The duo of Magaa and Yaba journeyed on and this churned out the famed “Taabu” in collaboration with 125. This was followed up with “Jatelo”, “Ona Sasa”, and “Nyayo”, “Tena na Tena” ft Hart_the Band. Magaa being an accomplished musician and adept at production was instrumental in maintaining their sound. In 2019 they launched their second album “swag na kadhalika” under the executive production of House of Panache. Before the album could take off, during to unforeseen circumstances the band disbanded with the last remaining members launching solo careers.

Coming out of a three year self imposed sabbatical, Magaa brings to the fore a brand of humorous and soulful music. Born Ochieng Oduor, his love for music began at a young age. Who knew love and passion would grow into a career. One key ingredient in his music that has been a pillar in his consistent and constant creativity is no doubt legendary music producer Dillie with whom he has worked with under House of Dillie for a decade now and this has brought forth his ingenuity and versatility well.

Working with House of Dillie and House of Panache on his latest project and with the experience gathered along the way coped together with the unique sound of his music and tapping into his background, he is on a new path musically speaking to fulfilling fans’ thirst. By dropping much his anticipated Ep ‘O.M.O’ which incorporates style such as urban dodo, rhumba, neo benga, contemporary hip-hop and reggae, he intends to set the tone for the industry as he is well known for inginting the rhumba spark which fans enjoyed max.
