Producer, composer, rapper, actor, social media influencer and celebrated fashionista—there are few professional hats Joburg hip-hop lyricist Riky Rick doesn't rock. Also known as King Kotini, he's enjoyed a meteoric musical rise thanks in particular to his game-changing 2015 debut, Family Values. Rumoured to have been recorded in under 14 hours, the explosive LP deftly showcased the KwaMashu-born beatmaker’s distinct style of merging early Kwaito sounds with more contemporary hip-hop elements. In addition to going platinum—thanks to hit singles such as "Amantombazane", "Nafukwa (Fok Julle Naaiers)" and "Boss Zonke"—the album also garnered a slew of industry nods from the likes of the Loeries, MTV Africa, Metro FM, as well as the South African Music Awards (SAMAs).
