Musa’s fourth studio album is a collection of soothing Afro-soul and Afropop songs that live at the intersection of love and real life. Whereas the singer is smitten senseless on songs like “Wozala (Acoustic),” “My Dali,” and “Yimi,” he admits to his shortcomings on “Xolele,” his passionate duet with fellow Idols alum Zama Khumalo, and he asks for unconditional love against the backdrop of poverty on the title track. One for old-school love, he advises a young woman about the rules and practices of customary marriage on “Buhle,” carried by the wailing organs and electric guitars of mbaqanga—one in a plethora of genres that add color to Musa’s music. Indeed, his methodology varies as he weaves through a Mbongeni Ngema interpolation on “Joanna,” collaborates with a cappella group Beyond Vocal on a traditional South African gospel song, and substitutes the typical bells and percussion with a beatbox on “Umthandazo.”
